Legislation

Last Updated on October 20, 2026 by Immigration Team

Two main pieces of legislation govern the legal status of non-EU nationals in Bulgaria and their eligibility for Bulgarian citizenship.

The Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act regulates the grounds for obtaining a Type D visa, temporary and permanent residence, work-related residence permits, and the Bulgaria Golden Visa, as well as other immigration matters.

The Bulgarian Citizenship Act, on the other hand, sets out the grounds and requirements for acquiring Bulgarian citizenship.

At Immigration.BG, our team works to ensure that you have access to accurate, reliable and up-to-date information about Bulgarian immigration and citizenship law.
